I meant to post this a long time ago because it is such a funny story, but I kept forgetting. So, here goes:
Rob and I had decided to hold off on telling my mom that I was pregnant until I was 10 weeks along. Rob's mom was coming into town at that 10 week mark and we really wanted to wait and tell them together. Also, I wanted to get through my first OB appt. to make sure everything was okay. I pretty much tell my mom everything so this was not an easy task AT ALL since I found out that I was pregnant when I was only 3.5 weeks along.
When I was about 8 1/2 weeks I was watching the national Fox News when I woke up that morning. They were asking for people to email their questions about the Swine Flu vaccine as they were going to do a segment about it in the next hour. I was just starting work and had my laptop opened so I went ahead and emailed them. I asked about getting the vaccine at 10 weeks pregnant and if it was safe or not. I have never sent anything to a tv/news show before but this was in the beginning of the Swine Flu craziness and I was having a really hard time deciding whether or not I should get the vaccine. Wouldn't you know...they picked my email and put it up on the screen. At the bottom of the email it said "Laura in Massachusetts".
I am a huge fan of Fox News (sorry to all of my liberal friends) and I was so excited that they picked my email as they only ended up reading 4 or 5 total. So, I called my mom to tell her that my email was just on the national news. As far as I knew my mother did not watch Fox News. I was wrong! She happened to be cruising through the channels when she also saw that they were doing a segment on the vaccine...she stopped to watch it. When I told her my email had been on TV she said..."I saw an email from 'Laura in Massachusetts' but that wasn't yours because you are not pregnant. To which I replied..."Surprise!"
Not exactly the way we had planned to tell her but it was so funny and exciting that morning on the phone!
Oh, and I did end up getting the vaccine!
