Rob and I decided to take this sweet girl to Bonkerz today. It is one of those big indoor play areas for kids and it is right down the street from our house. The weather has been less than cooperative for any outdoor activities so we decided to finally see what this place was all about. (These pictures are not from today...just wanted to throw a couple in). When we went this morning she LOVED it and definitely impressed us with her climbing skills. She has never been too great at climbing...in fact she is quite clumsy, so I was nervous how she would do. Once she got a hang of it she did awesome. I am now rethinking the gymnastics class I was going to enroll her in. I think that once a week at Bonkerz may be exactly what she needs to build her strength. She had so much fun and we had such a great time watching her that we decided to go back after lunch and nap.
When we went back in the afternoon Rob and I were talking about our nameless baby boy. Rob mentioned that since his nickname is "Bear" that would make me "Mama Bear". It was right about then that I realized that he couldn'y have been more right. There were some older kids at Bonkerz this time and I looked up to see my sweet little girl surrounded by them. They were telling her that she was a baby and trying to pick her up. I don't think that they were being mean...but my sweet pea is fragile and kind and naive and innocent. I started to feel the mama bear in me come out. I was ready to climb my 9 month pregnant butt up into that crawl space and "save" my little girl. She looked at them and kept saying "I'm a big girl" and when they would run ahead she would "yell" in her softest voice, "Wait for me guys". As they made their way through the maze far ahead of her I looked over at her and saw her hugging one of the green padded foam bars saying, "I love you green!" with a huge smile on her face.
So what did the big, tough, Mama Bear do...

Oh gosh Laura, can we make it a bulk purchase on the bubbles? Your story nearly had me in tears too. Parenting is such a tricky balancing act of protecting our children and also letting them grow, learn and just be exactly who they are...their wonderful beautiful selves.
